Have you ever wondered how young students people decide on a career? Especially, one in health care. Think of all the choices, such as doctor, nurse, pharmacist, dentist, optometrist, veterinarian, bioengineering, or public health, ... not to mention all of the sub-specialties, like anesthesiologist, family medicine, occupational therapist, radiologist, nutritionist, lab technologist, physician assistant, etc. So many choices. So much information, yet not one online site that can offer the ability to browse, explore and learn about all the choices.

We are facing a critical crisis in healthcare. By 2020, if qualified, competent health care workers are not found and trained to replace those that who are retiring, and to support a growing population, the U.S. will face a public health crisis. The shortage of health care workers affects most every health care profession. For example, the Council on Graduate Medical Education has stated that the U.S. will likely face a shortage of physicians in the coming years to the order of between 85,000 and 96,000 by 2020. And nursing being one of the top ten occupations in terms of US job growth, likely will be facing a shortage of approximately 400,000 nurses by 2020, based on a study published in 2000 in the American Journal of American Medical Education.

The goal is to help students by providing a single site that they, their parents, teachers and counselors can rely on to support their discovery process. As the "go to" site for medical and health sciences education and career information, the site can be used to explore, learn, mentor and research schools, careers and specialties. An important part of the MedShow portal is our proprietary original content of webisode
